The fun, exciting part of a New Year is of course being adventurous and trying something, well…new. If you’ve been thinking about trying a new colour in your home then this is the perfect time to make the change.

Your home is your sanctuary. It’s a place that nurtures, restores and rejuvenates. Surrounding yourself with colours and things that you love makes sure that it does all of these things.

Ah, but where to start? Perhaps you have a dark unused corner or a room you rarely use. Spaces that might be in need of a little TLC are the obvious examples where a real impact can be made.

If you are like so many looking to bring in new colours yet find yourself heading for your safe colour choices here are a few tips to help you inject fresh and exciting colours into your home.

  1. Bring in the light
The quickest way to add freshness and brighten colour to any room is through natural daylight. After all, colour is light. Alternatively you may be able to change the mood and feel of a space simply by the cleverly placed accent lighting.
  2. Add colour
Inject your personality into your home through a feature wall, adding new tiles or painting a piece of furniture.  And if that feels like a bit too much like hard work or you’re still unsure, then a bunch of flowers or a few accessories in your favourite colours is a great way to dip your toe in the ‘colour’ water.
  3. Trust your instinct
To feel truly at home think about using colour and design to express your personality. Seek out colour tones you’re instinctively drawn to. This means they’ll have a positive impact on how you feel in your home.

Never fear – experiment! Colour is meant to be fun, inspirational and pleasantly emotional. The most important thing to remember is colour isn’t permanent, if it doesn’t feel right the first time play with the colour tones, the proportions or the placement until it feels exactly right for you – until it feels like home.
