With Thanksgiving creeping closer we picked the brains of Kristina, the founder of Lexington, for some ideas on how to create magical festive spaces. She tells us how to use colours and layers, foliage and candles to weave charm and character into our homes for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
LAYERING & COLOURS
Laying a table with warm table linens and bringing lots of wool throws, cushions and blankets creates a wonderful cosy feel. I love to keep it traditional and add a modern and personal twist. Keep it simple, a reclaimed wooden table layered with placemats, crockery and a patterned napkin is all you need to create a magical thanksgiving look.
Pick up out the tones of the tablecloth with natural foliage, bring the outdoors in and find pleasure in the small details.
Introduce glowing candles, big platters and fragrant welcoming drinks.
Don’t over complicate the decoration it’s about the people – friends and family coming together and having a good time. I think thanksgiving is a time to treasure family traditions, your home and your loved ones as well as a time to welcome new friends.
USE DIFFERENT HEIGHTS
Build up from the tablecloth and runner and create a display using different heights from the glasses, serving dishes and vases. Ensure you don’t create a look which blocks off the table or is too tall and restricts the flow of happy seasonal conservation between friends and family.
THE REST OF THE HOUSE
For guests staying over the holiday make sure the room is welcoming and inviting. Make sure to include a stack of fresh towels for guests.
THE PERSONAL TOUCH
Add a personal touch to your thanksgiving table with home-made decorations personalised place cards for your guests and family, children will enjoy more colourful ones and it makes everyone feel at home. You can attach name cards to seasonal treats for guests to take home with them when they leave.
LEAVE ENOUGH SPACE
The most important part of the day are friends, family and food so make sure that you keep enough space on the table for the hot turkey, sweet cranberry sauce.
