There’s nothing more relaxing than curling up by candlelight. And nothing more zen than the fresh smell of fragrance. I’m a huge fan of Branche d’Olive candles, so in keeping with this month’s zen and magic theme, I asked them to give us a flavour of their fragrances.
Branche d’Olive was founded in 2001 by Jane Comyn and Ruthie Watson, who initially formed a partnership buying and selling antique French furniture. It was on one such trip to L’Isle sur la Sorgue where the pair discovered beautiful handcrafted Marseille soap and added it to their baskets for decorative effect. Upon their return to the UK, and inundated with requests, Branche d’Olive was born.
To this day Jane and Ruthie lovingly continue to source each product, every bar of soap is imprinted with the brand’s signature, the olive branch: a symbolic representation of peace and the offering of a token. It is this company philosophy that makes Branche d’Olive one of the leading destinations for gifts and lifestyle accessories in the marketplace. Here we find out more:
Where and how do you source your products?
Branche d’Olive’s success is a direct result of its commitment to quality and providing customers with only the very best. Living up to the brand tagline, Luxury With Love, is of paramount importance.
Extraordinary care is taken over the origins of each product, which are principally sourced from local Provencale producers, famous for beginning with the best raw materials and then drawing on centuries of expertise and sustainable traditional methods to create some of the finest luxury goods in the world.
What are your most popular fragrances this season?
Popular for the Autumn/Winter are the Green Fig and Old Rose candles and diffusers, which are reminiscent of summers gone by. Green Fig, with green fruit notes that are mixed with blackcurrant, soft vanilla and citrus: all reminiscent of a stroll through a sun-drenched fig grove and Old Rose, a charming fresh fragrance, that is a tribute to the queen of flowers. One of the brand’s newer fragrances, Cloud, specially developed to create a dreamy, peaceful and softly seductive ambience, is also extremely popular.
Which candles and diffusers are your favourites for gifts?
Branche d’Olive’s room diffusers are particularly special (the brand were the first to introduce them into the UK market). Whilst the signature Garrigue scent remains the best seller to date, there are fragrances to suit everyone, ranging from the fresh citrus scent of the Lemon Verbena adding zest into the living room, to the woody scent of Bois de Cedre, an aromatic blend of cedar, sandalwood and veitver.
The brand’s beautiful scented wax candles, which burn for over 40 hours are also ideal presents, available boxed (individual or votive), bagged or simply wrapped and in six different fragrances, you can’t go wrong!
Can you give us a hint of any upcoming projects?
Branche d’Olive have recently created several new fragrances; Peony (rose and jasmine combined with sandalwood and warm amber) and White Tea (a mesmerising mix of flowery white teas combine with sandalwood, vanilla and Tonka bean resting on an intense musk chord). The brand have also branched into creating a Men’s range (shampoo/shower lotion and shaving cream).
Tell us something not many other people know about Branche d’Olive..
Upon receival of their first order of soap, over fifteen years ago, Jane and Ruthie realised that the delivery had been dropped which resulted in some of the bars being very slightly bruised… Bruising which they discovered could be repaired by washing… which is what they did, washed the soap before selling it! Never has soap been more clean!!
