For this week’s Best of British we’re speaking to Glasgow-based bluebellgray about their vibrant, colourful, beautiful designs.
Fi Douglas, a graduate of the prestigious Glasgow School of Art, set up bluebellgray with a clear vision and style in mind; her love of colour and all things floral combined with a desire to create unique painterly pieces. These vibrant, oversized water-colour blooms have become a brand signature and sit harmoniously alongside abstract pieces born from Fi’s natural painting process. Bluebellgray pieces are aimed at people looking for something unique and individual for their home, an antidote to mass production.
With an emphasis on quality and integrity bluebellgray source the best materials and take pride that all our fabrics and cushions are made in the UK. Each design is painted by hand in the Glasgow studio before being printed onto natural cottons and linens using state of the art printing technology. The printing methods used enable every brushstroke and colour to be captured, enhancing the feel of the hand-painted design. The pieces have a sense of provenance and the designer behind the product, adding to the feeling of exclusivity.
Where does Fiona find her inspiration?
Fiona draws her inspiration from both the great British countryside and British florals. Our ‘Devon’, ‘Tetbury’ and ‘Somerset’ fabrics are classic examples of the signature floral designs of bluebellgray.
What are your most popular products this season?
Our most popular bluebellgray products for Autumn/Winter have got to be our throws! There’s nothing better than snuggling up under a throw on a cold winters day.
Which products make great gifts?
Our Abstract cutting board makes a lovely gift, as the print is our best selling design! Our medium and large round trays are also great for the friend or family member who has everything, as they are both functional and beautiful!
What’s coming in 2016?
We’re incredibly excited to launch our new fine china collection in November 2015, the contemporary shapes and soft British floral designs make afternoon tea really special! We also can’t wait to launch the bluebellgray SS16 bedding, there is a really good mix of signature floral and painterly abstract designs! We just love seeing our customers reactions to our new collections!
